Charlie
Montres Jaquet Droz developed the automaton Charlie over a whole year between 2012 and 2013 and presented the automaton on the occasion of Baselworld in 2013. Charlie's face and dress code are based on the character of Willy Wonka in the film directed by Tim Burton, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, brought to life by actor Johnny Depp. Montres Jaquet Droz engaged a famous Swiss automaton maker to create Charlie's body and mechanisms. Like The Magician made by Montres Jaquet Droz, Charlie raises two bells with his hands, one after the other, to both show and conceal the wristwatches from the current Jaquet Droz collection. Charlie is composed of 2,693 parts and is animated using a system of 12 cams and 7 electric motors: 2 for the rotation of the plates, 4 for the watch elevators and a main one for the 12 cams found in the automaton's stand.
